I feel great! Do I really need a Chiropractor?

May 8, 2019 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

We get this question all the time. I feel great! Do I really need a Chiropractor? The answer is yes. Our spine is the most important part of our body. It supports us, it protects and encases our central nervous system and we only have one. But if I physically feel great, why do I need a Chiropractor?

Stress

As we go through life, we put stresses on our spine. Big stressors like falls, car accidents and sports can cause subluxations. Small stressors like slouching and looking down all day can cause subluxations. Any impact on your body can cause a misalignment. We may feel great afterward and feel as though we come out unscathed but the reality is that we may have caused some internal issues that can lead to a structural deficiency. Many times after a stressor you may not feel the pain initially. It may take time and repeated use for that pain to begin. Seeing your chiropractor on a regular basis can help to prevent delayed pain and keep you in optimal function.

 Sleep patterns

Believe it or not, how you sleep can affect your spinal structure. Have you ever woken up with a kink in your neck? That can be from a misalignment you obtained while you were sleeping. Do you sleep on your side with a pillow between your head and your arm? Sleeping this way can wear down the cartilage in your joint and inhibit movement in the long run. Maybe you’re a back sleeper, which is great! However, you like to sleep by twisting your lower body to one side. Learned behaviors such as sleep positions can put unnecessary stress on your spine and joints and lead to subluxations.

You may be subluxated and not even know it.

As mentioned earlier, subluxations occur throughout the normal course of life. Sleeping in the wrong position, falling, sitting and even standing the wrong way can lead to subluxations. Life is hard and we are hard on our bodies. Even our hobbies can cause misalignments. For example, for someone who loves to knit, the repetitive motions can cause wrist subluxations, much like people who work on computers all day. Their posture as they sit, hunched looking at their screens and the position of their hands on the keyboard can all lead to subluxations. Regular visits to your chiropractor can help you to correct these learned behaviors. Subluxations do not always cause pain, but they always affect your body function.

It’s a Holistic approach to healing.

We should look at Chiropractic care as a preventive instead of a reactionary medicine. Think of it as vitamins that we need to sustain health instead of medication that we use for disease. If you were to look at your spinal structure, you would see that your nervous system is encased in your spinal column. Your nervous system is the Grand Central station for all nerve and brain activity in your body. When there are “kinks” in that system, that’s when we see symptoms such as allergies, tingling in our hands and feet and a variety of other ailments. When we view Chiropractic care as preventative medicine, we are helping our bodies to function at an optimum level.  If you think you feel great now, start going to a chiropractor and see how much better you can function and feel.

Do I have to keep going to the Chiropractor once I start?

April 10, 2019 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

Most people don’t know that they have to take care of their spine. Nobody tells them to do that but you should be taking care of your spine from when you are born. Just like you would take care of any other body part you have. Unfortunately, a lot of people do not do that and you’re not told to do that.

If more people were told to take care of their spines at a younger age then more people would do it. The thing about your spine, just like your teeth, it has to be taken care of. We do things to our bodies on a regular basis which is hard on our bodies. These things that we do on a normal day like the way we sit or stand, can take a toll on your spine and contort it. It can create shifts and misalignments. These things need to be addressed because they compress your nerves and when your nerves are compressed things don’t work the way they should.

Because a lot of people have not been told at an early age to take care of their spines they go through life compounding stress and compression on their nervous system and eventually it leads to pain and discomfort. These are body signals that happen when something is really wrong and your body cannot take the pain any longer. When people start going to the Chiropractor they are realizing that they are now having to undo 20-30 years of damage.

It’s not always about if you have pain. You might experience a fall and have no pain as a result, however, you should get an adjustment because although you might not have pain right away, the fall might have compressed a nerve and you may experience pain later if left untreated.

People ask all the time, do I have to continue care. The answer is you don’t have to but you should want to. You should want to take care of the one spine you were given. The fact is that it’s the one thing in your body that cannot be replaced.

If you’re someone who wants to be able to live longer and have better function in their body you should get your spine checked on a regular basis. If it’s important for you to be able to walk and sit then get adjusted regularly.

Why do I get the same subluxations and can they be avoided?

March 27, 2019 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

Why do I get the same subluxations?

Have you ever wondered why you seem to get the same subluxations over and over again? Ever tried to change the way you sleep? Sit? Stand? It’s difficult to relearn new patterns, to change old habits. However, it can be done. The same is true for your subluxations.

Typically people will have the same subluxation patterns. These patterns are developed over time. They occur because of how you sleep, stand, sit and move. These things can influence your posture which then can cause subluxations. However, it doesn’t stop there, your choice of hobbies, exercise and leisurely activities can also cause subluxations.

How are these subluxations established?

As you move through your life you develop habits. These habits are as simple as how you sleep in bed or how you sit at your desk. For most people, it is more comfortable to slouch at your desk then to sit up straight. Some people prefer to sleep on their left side instead of on their back. These simple habits create subluxations.

For example, when you slouch at your desk, you are creating a reversed curvature in your lower spine, which may be comfortable but is not ideal or beneficial for the health of your spine. Instead, try to sit with your shoulder blades pulled back together. This will prevent you from slouching and although it may be tiring at first, like going to the gym, you’re working those muscles to help support your spine, therefore providing optimum health.

Can I do anything to help minimize or eliminate these subluxations?

The first thing to do is to see your CBP chiropractor. Regular visits will help correct the structure, which will strengthen the muscles around that affected area and promote health. The Doctor can then give you exercises to do at home to help prevent [Read more…]

February Heart Health: How can CBP help the functionality of your heart?

February 6, 2019 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

Chiropractic Biophysics adjustments can help with all of the functions of your body, even your heart. But can it help the functionality of your heart?

As we know the spinal cord controls the entire body. The nerves that control the heart are in the middle part of the body, a little bit higher than your heart, in the upper back region. If you happen to have a misalignment in your spine, which you can get from slips or falls or posture habits, that can start to affect the nerve function to the heart.

You might not necessarily notice it when it’s a small amount of nerve functionality missing. However, you will certainly notice it when there is a large amount of nerve function loss. That is when it will result in a body signal, such as palpitations, or heart problems, like an abnormal heart rate.

It can also cause problems when you are exercising. Many people who are experiencing a subluxation, nerve compression, around their heart may suffer from exercise-induced asthma.

For this reason and many more, it’s important that every person gets a spinal check-up. It will allow you to identify these issues early so that you can address them and get the care you need.

Can CBP help with snoring, insomnia, and sleep apnea?

January 16, 2019 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

People often wonder if CBP (Chiropractic Biophysics) care can help with snoring, insomnia, and sleep apnea. The important thing to remember about any physical malady is to figure out where the problem is coming from. It is important to understand what is going on. Why is it happening?

Ask some questions.

Is it physically related? Is someone suffering from insomnia because they have an imbalance in their brain chemistry which is creating an adrenaline dump so that they’re amped up all the time? Or are food choices causing insomnia? Are you drinking coffee or caffeine too close to bedtime?

It could be that you are subluxated. If your body isn’t working correctly then your body cannot function correctly because the nerves that are controlling those body parts are compressed by the spinal subluxation.

The first thing you have to do is ask questions. Why is this happening? Once you can figure out what the cause is then you can apply an appropriate solution.

Can CBP adjustments help?

We have found at Active Family Chiropractic some people who have previously been suffering from snoring, sleep apnea, and insomnia have found relief through CBP adjustments. There have also been people who have needed additional help.

Those are individuals with deviated septums, for example, or a physical deformity which causes the snoring or the sleep apnea. In those cases, they will not be able to stop snoring or stop having sleep apnea without some sort of intervention such as surgery or a machine.

CBP care helps a lot of different people with a lot of different ailments if it’s related to subluxations in the spine. If it’s a deformity of some sort of structural component such as a deviated septum, then most likely it’s not nervous system pressure which is causing the problem it’s the actual structure that is causing the problem. Structure always dictates function.

Go to your CBP chiropractor.

It is important to start by asking why is this happening. What are some factors that are contributing to my snoring, insomnia, and/or sleep apnea? The place to do that is with your CBP chiropractor. The doctor can ask those important questions so you can better understand how your body functions and if your snoring, insomnia, and/or sleep apnea are caused by your structure or by a subluxation. So make an appointment with your CBP chiropractor today and maybe you could get a good night sleep tonight.

Can CBP adjustments help us conceive?

November 28, 2018 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

What we do know about the body is that all of the body functions need to work optimally. Your body is really good at keeping itself functioning in a state of what we call homeostasis. This is when your body is working in sync with your body parts.

Sometimes when subluxations occur it does disrupt the homeostasis by preventing the messages or the energy from the brain down the spinal cord to the body part. The subluxation can block the nerve flow, the energy flow to certain levels in the nervous system. If those nerves happen to go to the reproductive organs it could lend to problems with infertility.

At Active Family Chiropractic we have seen people who were unable to conceive naturally before they begun to get their spines corrected with Chiropractic Biophysics. Once they began to get adjusted regularly they were able to conceive naturally.

It’s not 100% possible for all people conceive naturally because there are some structural malformations that people have which prevent fertilization from happening. In those cases, Chiropractic adjustments would not be able to help because of the structural problem. However, if it’s a nerve flow problem that can be corrected with adjustments and AFC has seen it a lot.

Ergonomics of Raking

November 7, 2018 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

Now that we’re in the full swing of fall it’s time we talked about how to rake those leaves properly. Granted leaves don’t weigh much but if you employ poor raking techniques you could easily throw your back out.

This is a time when a lot of people are trying to get their yards prepped for the winter and what winds up happening is they strain their bodies and they hurt themselves. In order to prevent this, one of the first things you should do is hydrate well.

Hydrate!

If you’re going to be out in the yard working you want to make sure that you are properly hydrated not only during the work but before you leave the house to do the lawn care. The next thing you want to make sure you do is to get your body warm.

Get the blood moving!

You want to make sure that you warm up. Take a walk up and down your driveway to make sure that you get the blood flowing. Do some arm and leg swings to get the blood circulating through your body.

How you position your body raking matters!

You never want to bend at the waist if possible. If your rake does not support that, look into getting a more ergonomic rake or get a rake that’s taller so you don’t have to bend over to rake. Also, make sure that you’re alternating sides when you rate. If you start on the right, do 10 strokes and then switch to your left and do 10 strokes.

Try to rake out in front of you an toward you with your hips pointing forward. Try not to twist to move the leaves behind you. Once you have completed all of your raking there are a couple things left to do.

Stretch!

You want to make sure you drink lots of water and stretch for at least 15 minutes when you’re done. Pop on the tv and stretch while you’re watching.

Get some protein.

Drink a shake or eat some eggs, find a way to get some protein in your body to help speed the repair of muscles that you just used. Eating protein after will help reduce soreness and inflammation.

Repair and replenish

Remember to drink plenty of water to help flush the toxins from your system. You can also take an Epsom salt bath to help soothe aching, tired muscles.

See your CBP Chiropractor

Another thing you can do to help with muscle soreness is to get a CBP Chiropractic adjustment. Doing all that manual labor can throw your body out of alignment and cause subluxations. Seeing your chiropractor will remove those subluxations and reduce the amount of pressure on your spine. So make an appointment with your Chiropractor after you do any strenuous activity.

What Benefits are there for Newborns to get Adjusted by a CBP Chiropractor?

October 17, 2018 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

The best benefit of having a newborn adjusted by a CBP doctor is that they have no pressure on their spinal cord at a young age. This allows their bodies to grow at 100%.  There have been many times when a child has had birthing trauma.

What are birthing traumas?

Let’s look at what a birthing trauma could be. It could be a natural birth. Any mom will tell you that giving birth to a child is very traumatic not only for themselves but for the baby as well.

There are also serious birthing situations like if someone needs a vacuum extraction. This is when a suction cup is placed on the top of the child’s head and their necks are yanked as they are being pulled out of their mother’s womb.

C-sections are the most traumatic birthing trauma. A lot of people don’t realize it because they think you just go in through a flap of skin and lift the baby out. However, it is very traumatic for the baby because the baby is usually lower in the birth canal, or descending into the birth canal and then someone is trying to bring them out a different way and that creates a lot of trauma on the baby’s neck.

When the baby comes through the birthing canal, he or she is exposed to a lot of beneficial bacteria, which the baby can use to help develop their immune system. When they are born through a c-section they miss out on that good bacteria.

A lot of times in a C-section the cervical, which is the neck, pressure marks the genetic code on the babies for asthma and allergies. A lot of times you’ll see babies who have been birthed through C-sections will be later diagnosed with asthma and/or allergies through the cervical cord trauma.

Cervical cord trauma also leads to sudden infant death syndrome. Trauma occurs to the cervical spine and the baby dies in its sleep because it doesn’t have the correct nerve flow. This can be avoided.

During the everyday.

While an infant is developing they are nursing. They are usually nursing and gravitate to one side more than the other because they may have a subluxation in their neck causing irritation. If the infant tends to have a lot of acid reflux that could be a result of a subluxation as well.

How can a CBP Chiropractor help?

Many of these maladies can be addressed with corrective care. By bringing in your child to a CBP chiropractor you are giving your child the best chance to grow at optimum levels. They will be sick less and be less irritated. Make an appointment for your infant today and get them on the road to optimum health.

Should Kids in Gymnastics Be Adjusted?

August 29, 2018 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

Gymnastics create a lot of trauma for the spine when the children are learning how to do the jumps and tumbles. They wind up putting a lot of extra strain on their bodies along with the falls that happen. This can really cause a lot of misalignments in the spine.

Gymnastics can be very hard on the body. Many times a child will fall while learning how to tumble or jump and those falls can lead to misalignments and subluxations. In addition, over-training or over-development of areas can affect the development of muscles and can cause a muscular imbalance which can lead to injury down the road.

If a child has been involved in gymnastics at any stage they should see a Chiropractor to be assessed for subluxations. The assessment at a CBP Chiropractor will involve a spinal check-up, exams, and x-rays. So make an appointment for your tumbler with a CBP Chiropractor and ensure that your child has good spinal alignment.

Why do you say “Power Is On!” after every adjustment?

August 15, 2018 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

Your power is on!

Saying that “your power is on” is regarding the body’s ability to process energy from the brain down the spinal cord. The energy that comes from the brain, down the spinal cord, to all parts of the body is what keeps you alive and healthy. If you have subluxations that can slow down the flow of energy.

Think of your spinal cord as a river. It brings energy from your brain, down your spinal cord to all parts of your body, every organ and tissue is totally dependent on that energy to keep you alive and healthy. If you have a subluxation or a misalignment as a result of a trauma or day-to-day life, it can compress your nervous system which will slow down the energy flow.

After adjustments saying that “your power is on” is indicating that you are at 100% nervous system function.

Get your power on!

Wonder if you’re operating at 100% nervous system function? The only way to do that is to make an appointment for a check-up with a CBP Chiropractor. They will be able to assess if you have any subluxations or misalignments which are impeding the flow of energy in your body, so call and set up an appointment today.
