Allergies. How a CBP Chiropractor can help.

April 17, 2019 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

Allergies are a very common problem for a lot of people and they are often misunderstood. Allergies are your body’s natural reaction to overstimulation of a substance in the body. It’s your body’s way of trying to manage the overstimulation to whatever that allergen may be.

It’s misunderstood because many people think they can’t do anything about their allergies, that they are stuck with them. That is not true. The best thing to do for allergy management is to identify what’s causing the allergen and then once you know what the allergen is you can apply the right solution.

Most of the time it’s just diet modification or even now the newest studies in allergens are showing small doses of exposure to the allergen can allow your body to accommodate to it and overcome your allergy. A lot of allergies start because of lower immune system function in the body which can come from a number of things.

If they are adult on-set allergies it is usually because the immune system is compromised in some way. Your body is just more susceptible to overreacting to your immune system not being able to handle what it normally would.  Childhood allergies are often linked with cervical spine trauma, which is the neck at the time of birth. For example, babies that are c-sectioned are more likely to have allergies or asthma because of the pressure on the spinal cord.

One of the best things you can do to combat allergies is to get a CBP spinal check-up. When your spine is not working right your body is malfunctioning and might be one of the reasons you have allergies. So get a spinal check-up and set up and appointment to rid yourself of allergies.

Do I have to keep going to the Chiropractor once I start?

April 10, 2019 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

Most people don’t know that they have to take care of their spine. Nobody tells them to do that but you should be taking care of your spine from when you are born. Just like you would take care of any other body part you have. Unfortunately, a lot of people do not do that and you’re not told to do that.

If more people were told to take care of their spines at a younger age then more people would do it. The thing about your spine, just like your teeth, it has to be taken care of. We do things to our bodies on a regular basis which is hard on our bodies. These things that we do on a normal day like the way we sit or stand, can take a toll on your spine and contort it. It can create shifts and misalignments. These things need to be addressed because they compress your nerves and when your nerves are compressed things don’t work the way they should.

Because a lot of people have not been told at an early age to take care of their spines they go through life compounding stress and compression on their nervous system and eventually it leads to pain and discomfort. These are body signals that happen when something is really wrong and your body cannot take the pain any longer. When people start going to the Chiropractor they are realizing that they are now having to undo 20-30 years of damage.

It’s not always about if you have pain. You might experience a fall and have no pain as a result, however, you should get an adjustment because although you might not have pain right away, the fall might have compressed a nerve and you may experience pain later if left untreated.

People ask all the time, do I have to continue care. The answer is you don’t have to but you should want to. You should want to take care of the one spine you were given. The fact is that it’s the one thing in your body that cannot be replaced.

If you’re someone who wants to be able to live longer and have better function in their body you should get your spine checked on a regular basis. If it’s important for you to be able to walk and sit then get adjusted regularly.

Can CBP adjustments help a hunchback?

April 3, 2019 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

The only time that a CBP chiropractor cannot help someone with a hunchback is when it’s too far gone. Often times you will see somebody who has severe degeneration in their spine from lack of care over time. You may notice it more in seniors.

The reason isn’t because of their age that a hunchback might develop, it is because they might have had a problem in their spine at a young age and it wasn’t addressed. As gravity pulls you and time passes it becomes more of a hunch.

Often times you can reverse any spinal structure as long as the spine hasn’t fused. Your spine can naturally fuse and will naturally fuse to help support your body if you’re not doing anything to help maintain it. That’s what arthritis is.

There are times when people have something called a hyperkyphosis, which is an extreme rounding of the spine. This is like when you think of Quasimodo. That is usually a serious form of scoliosis in the thoracic spine.

There are some conditions when a person is predisposed to having loss of disc height and loss of bone height in the front and your body will start to collapse forward on itself. In those instances, surgical intervention is needed quickly because there is nothing you can do otherwise.

It really does depend on what the problem is and a CBP doctor would not be able to help unless you have a check-up. So the first thing to do is to get your spine checked by a CBP practitioner to determine what is going on. Make an appointment today.

Why do I get the same subluxations and can they be avoided?

March 27, 2019 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

Why do I get the same subluxations?

Have you ever wondered why you seem to get the same subluxations over and over again? Ever tried to change the way you sleep? Sit? Stand? It’s difficult to relearn new patterns, to change old habits. However, it can be done. The same is true for your subluxations.

Typically people will have the same subluxation patterns. These patterns are developed over time. They occur because of how you sleep, stand, sit and move. These things can influence your posture which then can cause subluxations. However, it doesn’t stop there, your choice of hobbies, exercise and leisurely activities can also cause subluxations.

How are these subluxations established?

As you move through your life you develop habits. These habits are as simple as how you sleep in bed or how you sit at your desk. For most people, it is more comfortable to slouch at your desk then to sit up straight. Some people prefer to sleep on their left side instead of on their back. These simple habits create subluxations.

For example, when you slouch at your desk, you are creating a reversed curvature in your lower spine, which may be comfortable but is not ideal or beneficial for the health of your spine. Instead, try to sit with your shoulder blades pulled back together. This will prevent you from slouching and although it may be tiring at first, like going to the gym, you’re working those muscles to help support your spine, therefore providing optimum health.

Can I do anything to help minimize or eliminate these subluxations?

The first thing to do is to see your CBP chiropractor. Regular visits will help correct the structure, which will strengthen the muscles around that affected area and promote health. The Doctor can then give you exercises to do at home to help prevent [Read more…]

Kids need Chiropractors too!

February 20, 2019 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

It’s simple, children need to be adjusted because they have spines as we all do. Children need to see a chiropractor maybe more so than adults because of their activity levels.

As a child grows they are learning how to walk, how to ride bikes, how to play sports and with all that comes falling, tripping, and stumbling. All of these things create trauma in the body, which creates misalignments and shifts creating a strain on the nervous system.

A child receives their first subluxation at birth. When the child is born either naturally or via c-section, the first subluxation occurs in the neck when the child is extracted from the mother. We know that upper cervical subluxation can be a cause for sudden infant death syndrome, so it is very important that every child has a spine check-up and adjustments.

As a child grows they are subject to the harsh realities of life. They may fall down a couple stairs or fall off the changing table. They may be tackled by a friend or tumble out of their crib when they’re starting to walk. Any time a trauma happens there’s spinal misalignments. Those have to be minimized in order for the child to be healthy.

Chiropractic care isn’t about how you feel. It’s about how you function. If you fall or have any kind of trauma your function is going to be affected, no matter how old you are. So get your child a spinal check-up today. Their immune system with get a boost and they’ll grow up big and strong.

Can CBP help with snoring, insomnia, and sleep apnea?

January 16, 2019 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

People often wonder if CBP (Chiropractic Biophysics) care can help with snoring, insomnia, and sleep apnea. The important thing to remember about any physical malady is to figure out where the problem is coming from. It is important to understand what is going on. Why is it happening?

Ask some questions.

Is it physically related? Is someone suffering from insomnia because they have an imbalance in their brain chemistry which is creating an adrenaline dump so that they’re amped up all the time? Or are food choices causing insomnia? Are you drinking coffee or caffeine too close to bedtime?

It could be that you are subluxated. If your body isn’t working correctly then your body cannot function correctly because the nerves that are controlling those body parts are compressed by the spinal subluxation.

The first thing you have to do is ask questions. Why is this happening? Once you can figure out what the cause is then you can apply an appropriate solution.

Can CBP adjustments help?

We have found at Active Family Chiropractic some people who have previously been suffering from snoring, sleep apnea, and insomnia have found relief through CBP adjustments. There have also been people who have needed additional help.

Those are individuals with deviated septums, for example, or a physical deformity which causes the snoring or the sleep apnea. In those cases, they will not be able to stop snoring or stop having sleep apnea without some sort of intervention such as surgery or a machine.

CBP care helps a lot of different people with a lot of different ailments if it’s related to subluxations in the spine. If it’s a deformity of some sort of structural component such as a deviated septum, then most likely it’s not nervous system pressure which is causing the problem it’s the actual structure that is causing the problem. Structure always dictates function.

Go to your CBP chiropractor.

It is important to start by asking why is this happening. What are some factors that are contributing to my snoring, insomnia, and/or sleep apnea? The place to do that is with your CBP chiropractor. The doctor can ask those important questions so you can better understand how your body functions and if your snoring, insomnia, and/or sleep apnea are caused by your structure or by a subluxation. So make an appointment with your CBP chiropractor today and maybe you could get a good night sleep tonight.

Tips for a healthier New Year.

January 2, 2019 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

Happy New Year everyone! Let’s start the new year off right by establishing good habits. Here are some tips for a healthier new year.

Meet the four fundamental needs of your body.

#1. Your nervous system.

Without your brain telling your body what to do through your spinal cord, your body doesn’t function. If you’re not taking care of your spine through regular CBP (Chiropractic Biophysics) adjustments. Your spine cannot work at 100% or at it’s highest potential. As a result that can give you lower health, give you more physical problems, more pain, more limitations, and, less energy.

Many people think that to be healthy you need to just eat well and exercise but it’s more than that. However, it’s so much more than that and the first step is to get regular adjustments by a CBP chiropractor.

#2. Oxygen in your cells.

The best way to keep your cells oxygenated is through exercise and movement. That doesn’t mean you have to run marathons or do aggressive workouts. You are able to do this by walking, swimming, stretching, or just moving. That is how old cells in your body get replaced with new cells. That is also how you stay young and disease free. It is through the oxygenation of the body. The best way to oxygenate your body is through movement, aka exercise.

#3. Water intake.

To be healthier this year one of the best things you can do is to increase your water intake, slowly. If you increase your water intake too fast you will, more than likely urinate it out and it won’t be absorbed. The best thing to do is to sip it throughout the day. The goal for each person should be to intake half your body weight in ounces. That is your minimum hydration levels, needed to maintain good function in your body. Anything above that would be great! Anything below that means you are dehydrated.

Dehydration will help to slow down all of your body functions, which ultimately will affect your health. So, in order to be healthier, you have to get more water into your body. Make sure that if you are consuming beverages with caffeine you want to consume the same amount of water in addition to your daily minimum.

#4. Nutrition and eating the right foods.

This is different for everyone. Some people need to eat raw foods only and some people cannot eat raw foods because of their digestion. Some people can eat gluten and some people can’t, etc. Nutrition is not a single answer. Every person has to figure out what is going to work best for their bodies.

Your body will tell you whether or not it likes what you are putting into it. If you feel energized after you eat, if you feel healthier, if you feel good then you know you’re eating the right foods. If you are feeling gassy, or have heartburn, or any of those other signs of incomplete digestion then you’ll know that you are not eating foods that are good for your body. It’s a good idea to consult a registered dietitian in order to get a specific diet plan together.

Use these as a guideline

That’s the best way to be healthier in the new year. Working on these four fundamental needs listed above will help to give you a good foundation for building a healthier you for the new year. So make a plan to see a CBP chiropractor, drink more water, eat better for your body and move more!

Ergonomics of Raking

November 7, 2018 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

Now that we’re in the full swing of fall it’s time we talked about how to rake those leaves properly. Granted leaves don’t weigh much but if you employ poor raking techniques you could easily throw your back out.

This is a time when a lot of people are trying to get their yards prepped for the winter and what winds up happening is they strain their bodies and they hurt themselves. In order to prevent this, one of the first things you should do is hydrate well.

Hydrate!

If you’re going to be out in the yard working you want to make sure that you are properly hydrated not only during the work but before you leave the house to do the lawn care. The next thing you want to make sure you do is to get your body warm.

Get the blood moving!

You want to make sure that you warm up. Take a walk up and down your driveway to make sure that you get the blood flowing. Do some arm and leg swings to get the blood circulating through your body.

How you position your body raking matters!

You never want to bend at the waist if possible. If your rake does not support that, look into getting a more ergonomic rake or get a rake that’s taller so you don’t have to bend over to rake. Also, make sure that you’re alternating sides when you rate. If you start on the right, do 10 strokes and then switch to your left and do 10 strokes.

Try to rake out in front of you an toward you with your hips pointing forward. Try not to twist to move the leaves behind you. Once you have completed all of your raking there are a couple things left to do.

Stretch!

You want to make sure you drink lots of water and stretch for at least 15 minutes when you’re done. Pop on the tv and stretch while you’re watching.

Get some protein.

Drink a shake or eat some eggs, find a way to get some protein in your body to help speed the repair of muscles that you just used. Eating protein after will help reduce soreness and inflammation.

Repair and replenish

Remember to drink plenty of water to help flush the toxins from your system. You can also take an Epsom salt bath to help soothe aching, tired muscles.

See your CBP Chiropractor

Another thing you can do to help with muscle soreness is to get a CBP Chiropractic adjustment. Doing all that manual labor can throw your body out of alignment and cause subluxations. Seeing your chiropractor will remove those subluxations and reduce the amount of pressure on your spine. So make an appointment with your Chiropractor after you do any strenuous activity.

How does healing happen at a CBP office?

October 31, 2018 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

Healing happens from the inside out and from the top down. Meaning from your brain, down your spinal column to all parts of your body. In the Chiropractic community, they call this ADIO, which stands for Above Down Inside Out.

Your brain sends healing messages and it tells your immune system how to work, which heals your body, as well as controlling sleep patterns and a whole range of other functions. When we’re looking at healing, it will always start in the brain and it will travel down the spinal cord to all parts of the body.

This is a difficult concept for many because western medicine has conditioned us to believe that we are to force health from outside in by taking medications or certain supplements. Medications work by influencing the brain and your brain chemistry. It manipulates how your brain sends messages to the body. Medications don’t actually go to the affected body parts. For example, if you have a backache, the medication doesn’t go straight to your back and help with healing. Instead, it tells your brain to send a message to your lower back that everything is ok.

Medication alters your brain chemistry so that it doesn’t perceive pain the way it did before. So it actually doesn’t do anything for the affected area, it just masks the problem. This is one of the reasons that a person could keep re-injuring themselves. If they are taking medication for their pain, they may think that they are feeling better when in reality the medication is just covering up the fact that they are in pain so that they can function. This is an example of how we try to shove health from the outside in.

CBP Chiropractors always encourage people to take care of the body they have and it will function normally. If your body is malfunctioning you have to ask yourself why. It’s usually because your brain or your spinal cord is malfunctioning due to a spinal misalignment.

If it begins to function abnormally that is when it is time to see your CBP Chiropractor. Getting a check-up is the first step to healing yourself from the inside out. The doctor will be able to examine you and determine the best course of action to help encourage your body to heal itself by addressing those spinal misalignments. So call and get checked-up today!

What is the difference between Correction and Pain Management in regards to Chiropractic Care?

September 26, 2018 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

No two Chiropractors are made the same. Much like there are specializations in other branches of the medical field so too are there in Chiropractic medicine. Chiropractic Biophysics focuses care on correction while the vast majority of Chiropractors focus on patch care or pain management.

So what is the difference between correcting and pain management?

Correction is fixing the problem that’s there. Pain management or pain relief is only addressing the problem until the pain goes away but still leaving the problem there to wreak havoc another day. Another way you can think about this is short-term, (Patch care chiropractic) versus long-term (CBP Chiropractic).

Short-term would be relief care, where you would leave with no pain, so you think you’re ok and you stop doing good things for yourself like Chiropractic care. Versus continuing to do good things for yourself like continued Chiropractic care and addressing the real issue which will give you a better quality of life in the long run.

For example, you wouldn’t exercise to lose 5 lbs, and once you’ve lost the 5 lbs you’re done exercising. You probably wouldn’t because you know it’s good for your body. The same thing with Chiropractic care, most people only use it when they have a b0dy signal that tells them something is wrong. However, they should use it even when you don’t have your body signaling you to do so. You don’t always feel problems until your body has had enough.

How do I prevent issues in my body from happening?

Make an appointment with your CBP Chiropractor. They will help you to determine what you need to heal your body from the inside out.
