How does healing happen at a CBP office?

October 31, 2018 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

Healing happens from the inside out and from the top down. Meaning from your brain, down your spinal column to all parts of your body. In the Chiropractic community, they call this ADIO, which stands for Above Down Inside Out.

Your brain sends healing messages and it tells your immune system how to work, which heals your body, as well as controlling sleep patterns and a whole range of other functions. When we’re looking at healing, it will always start in the brain and it will travel down the spinal cord to all parts of the body.

This is a difficult concept for many because western medicine has conditioned us to believe that we are to force health from outside in by taking medications or certain supplements. Medications work by influencing the brain and your brain chemistry. It manipulates how your brain sends messages to the body. Medications don’t actually go to the affected body parts. For example, if you have a backache, the medication doesn’t go straight to your back and help with healing. Instead, it tells your brain to send a message to your lower back that everything is ok.

Medication alters your brain chemistry so that it doesn’t perceive pain the way it did before. So it actually doesn’t do anything for the affected area, it just masks the problem. This is one of the reasons that a person could keep re-injuring themselves. If they are taking medication for their pain, they may think that they are feeling better when in reality the medication is just covering up the fact that they are in pain so that they can function. This is an example of how we try to shove health from the outside in.

CBP Chiropractors always encourage people to take care of the body they have and it will function normally. If your body is malfunctioning you have to ask yourself why. It’s usually because your brain or your spinal cord is malfunctioning due to a spinal misalignment.

If it begins to function abnormally that is when it is time to see your CBP Chiropractor. Getting a check-up is the first step to healing yourself from the inside out. The doctor will be able to examine you and determine the best course of action to help encourage your body to heal itself by addressing those spinal misalignments. So call and get checked-up today!

What Benefits are there for Newborns to get Adjusted by a CBP Chiropractor?

October 17, 2018 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

The best benefit of having a newborn adjusted by a CBP doctor is that they have no pressure on their spinal cord at a young age. This allows their bodies to grow at 100%.  There have been many times when a child has had birthing trauma.

What are birthing traumas?

Let’s look at what a birthing trauma could be. It could be a natural birth. Any mom will tell you that giving birth to a child is very traumatic not only for themselves but for the baby as well.

There are also serious birthing situations like if someone needs a vacuum extraction. This is when a suction cup is placed on the top of the child’s head and their necks are yanked as they are being pulled out of their mother’s womb.

C-sections are the most traumatic birthing trauma. A lot of people don’t realize it because they think you just go in through a flap of skin and lift the baby out. However, it is very traumatic for the baby because the baby is usually lower in the birth canal, or descending into the birth canal and then someone is trying to bring them out a different way and that creates a lot of trauma on the baby’s neck.

When the baby comes through the birthing canal, he or she is exposed to a lot of beneficial bacteria, which the baby can use to help develop their immune system. When they are born through a c-section they miss out on that good bacteria.

A lot of times in a C-section the cervical, which is the neck, pressure marks the genetic code on the babies for asthma and allergies. A lot of times you’ll see babies who have been birthed through C-sections will be later diagnosed with asthma and/or allergies through the cervical cord trauma.

Cervical cord trauma also leads to sudden infant death syndrome. Trauma occurs to the cervical spine and the baby dies in its sleep because it doesn’t have the correct nerve flow. This can be avoided.

During the everyday.

While an infant is developing they are nursing. They are usually nursing and gravitate to one side more than the other because they may have a subluxation in their neck causing irritation. If the infant tends to have a lot of acid reflux that could be a result of a subluxation as well.

How can a CBP Chiropractor help?

Many of these maladies can be addressed with corrective care. By bringing in your child to a CBP chiropractor you are giving your child the best chance to grow at optimum levels. They will be sick less and be less irritated. Make an appointment for your infant today and get them on the road to optimum health.

Do Chiropractic adjustments cause strokes?

October 10, 2018 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

As a Chiropractor, Dr. B gets asked this question all the time. Adjustments do not cause strokes. Let’s start there.

There have been a few instances where there have been pre-existing conditions, meaning that the patient had problems with the arteries in their neck, that were undiagnosed problems. The patient then had a negative response to the adjustment, whether it had been a stroke or something of that nature. The problem is that their arteries already had the issue and it created something of a ticking time bomb.

People have strokes every day. The only time it’s ever linked with Chiropractic adjustments is right after a Chiropractic adjustment. This happens when the arteries in the person’s neck are already compromised. This happens by the virtue of the person’s choices such as what they eat. If you are eating really bad foods that clog your arteries it will lead to blockages which can cause strokes.

People have strokes in this country all the time. It’s the second leading cause of preventable death in the United States. However, it is only brought to the media’s attention when it is in consort with a Chiropractic adjustment. It is very rare when it does happen.

Chiropractic care is not dangerous, it is extremely safe. Active Family Chiropractic goes an extra step to ensure that there is no way that they could create a problem with someone like, inducing a stroke, by performing a very thorough exam to test for the compromise of those arteries. They also take x-rays which can show if a ligament is calcified and putting pressure on the arteries. They make sure to take care and note if there are any pre-existing issues within the patient before any adjustments are done.

Chiropractics adjustments are done every day all over the world and there are so many people who benefit from Chiropractic care. Don’t be afraid to get an adjustment it’s one of the safest and best things you can do for your body. So call your local CBP Chiropractor and make an appointment today!

Why might I have increased pain after an adjustment?

October 3, 2018 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

Have you ever wondered why sometimes when you get an adjustment you might have increased pain? Sometimes people will have increased pain after an adjustment and one of the main reasons for this is dehydration.

A lot of people do not drink enough water and then they get an adjustment and their muscle responds to the adjustment, so they end up having a muscle spasm or some kind of muscular reaction. This can sometimes stay with a person for a while, presenting as a muscle ache or pain.

Another reason might be that other Chiropractors may put too much force into the adjustment. They may try to muscle through an adjustment because their technique isn’t as good and that can cause strained muscles.

Another factor might be tight muscles. At Active Family Chiropractic, patients are encouraged to stretch and warm up before getting an adjustment in order to loosen tight muscles. That way they don’t have muscular reactions to an adjustment.

However, pain after an adjustment is usually a cause of dehydration or a tight muscle. So drink a lot of water to stay hydrated and make sure to stretch before your adjustments.

What is the difference between Correction and Pain Management in regards to Chiropractic Care?

September 26, 2018 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

No two Chiropractors are made the same. Much like there are specializations in other branches of the medical field so too are there in Chiropractic medicine. Chiropractic Biophysics focuses care on correction while the vast majority of Chiropractors focus on patch care or pain management.

So what is the difference between correcting and pain management?

Correction is fixing the problem that’s there. Pain management or pain relief is only addressing the problem until the pain goes away but still leaving the problem there to wreak havoc another day. Another way you can think about this is short-term, (Patch care chiropractic) versus long-term (CBP Chiropractic).

Short-term would be relief care, where you would leave with no pain, so you think you’re ok and you stop doing good things for yourself like Chiropractic care. Versus continuing to do good things for yourself like continued Chiropractic care and addressing the real issue which will give you a better quality of life in the long run.

For example, you wouldn’t exercise to lose 5 lbs, and once you’ve lost the 5 lbs you’re done exercising. You probably wouldn’t because you know it’s good for your body. The same thing with Chiropractic care, most people only use it when they have a b0dy signal that tells them something is wrong. However, they should use it even when you don’t have your body signaling you to do so. You don’t always feel problems until your body has had enough.

How do I prevent issues in my body from happening?

Make an appointment with your CBP Chiropractor. They will help you to determine what you need to heal your body from the inside out.

Back to School: Backpack Safety

September 12, 2018 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

It’s that time of year again when kids, teen, and adults are going back to school and that means book bags! So what is the right way to carry your books?

Safety First

Backpack safety is very important, especially as children are growing. They are carrying heavy textbooks to and from class and they should only be carrying 15% of the child’s total weight on their back. So if they have more than that you really have to look at re-evaluating that weight by taking things out or considering an alternative way to cart their books around, such as a rolling backpack.

The Correct way to wear a backpack

How you hold your backpack is important as well. You must make sure to carry the backpack with both straps on and close to the body, not hanging down. The backpack also shouldn’t be bigger than the child or adult wearing it. In addition, if you can find a backpack that has a hip belt attached to it, this can help redistribute the weight from your back and shoulders to your hips. This can make the pack feel lighter.

If you have a backpack and typically wear it by only one strap this can cause structural problems over time. Because you are adding additional weight to one side of your body the other side of your body will try to counter the weight creating an imbalance.

What about Messenger bags or Totes?

You want to make sure that for these types of bags you are equally wearing the weight. If you have been carrying your messenger bag over your right shoulder for the past hour switch to the left for the next hour. Create balance so that your body can function at optimum levels.

How do I know if I’m wearing my back the right way?

If you have questions about the proper way to wear your bag come into Active Family Chiropractic. For the month of September AFC will be conducting complementary ergonomic evaluations. This isn’t only for how to wear your backpack but they can be applied to how your workstation is set up or how you sit and type. Really anything that could use an ergonomic overhaul. AFC will give you an ergonomic evaluation and give you easy suggestions to help support your body.

So call and make an appointment at 518-452-2800 or send us an email at [email protected]

Can you correct scoliosis?

September 5, 2018 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

Have you ever noticed that one of your legs might be longer than the other? Or maybe you cannot sleep on your stomach because one of your hips jams uncomfortably into the bed? You may have some degree of scoliosis and it may be correctable.

What is scoliosis?

Scoliosis is a three-part movement of the spine, rotation, flexion, and translation of the components of the spine. In order to fix it, you need to counter all three movements, which is why traditional Chiropractic care cannot help you. There are two reasons why they cannot help you, 1) they typically do not take x-rays so they cannot see what is happening with your spine, and 2) if they do they do not have the knowledge or the training to apply the forces of the technique as well as an in-office traction.

How can scoliosis be corrected?

Only with structural corrective adjustments and in-office traction, which is the Chiropractic Biophysics (CBP) technique. Any other attempt to correct it through the traditional Chiropractic care will not because you need to address the ligamentous and muscular components as well as the structural components of the spine. That is why CBP is so effective at reducing scoliosis because it addresses both of those things.

Some scoliosis is too far beyond correction, for example, the angle could be too severe, that it will actually compromise people’s body parts, their organs, at that point a Chiropractor will have to refer out in order to stop that progression. However, if you can catch it early enough you can certainly identify what is happening, apply the appropriate solution, and reduce the shifting.

How do I know if my scoliosis is beyond correction?

Your spine will be contorted to a degree where it is interfering with your organs. If this is the case seeing a Chiropractor for a check-up should be your first step. Once the problem is identified then a course of action will be recommended. If the scoliosis is extreme enough surgery might be recommended or wearing a scoli brace.

What is a scoli brace?

A scoli brace is mostly designed for youth, people who are still growing because as they grow, they can grow straighter with the help of the brace. The other is post-menopausal women because scoliosis tends to progress at a rapid rate in this group. However, if the scoliosis is too bad then a surgical consult will be recommended.

How do I find out if my scoliosis is correctable?

You would have to get a check-up with a CBP Chiropractor. The check-up will entail an exam, x-rays and a consultation. CBP Chiropractors use x-rays to be able to see what angle the scoliosis is and how severe it is. At that point, they would then be able to determine whether it was extreme enough to refer out or something that could be handled in office. The x-rays and exam also give the Chiropractor the information on how to correct the spine.

To see if your spine is in good working order make an appointment with a CBP Chiropractor and get on the road to healthy.

Should Kids in Gymnastics Be Adjusted?

August 29, 2018 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

Gymnastics create a lot of trauma for the spine when the children are learning how to do the jumps and tumbles. They wind up putting a lot of extra strain on their bodies along with the falls that happen. This can really cause a lot of misalignments in the spine.

Gymnastics can be very hard on the body. Many times a child will fall while learning how to tumble or jump and those falls can lead to misalignments and subluxations. In addition, over-training or over-development of areas can affect the development of muscles and can cause a muscular imbalance which can lead to injury down the road.

If a child has been involved in gymnastics at any stage they should see a Chiropractor to be assessed for subluxations. The assessment at a CBP Chiropractor will involve a spinal check-up, exams, and x-rays. So make an appointment for your tumbler with a CBP Chiropractor and ensure that your child has good spinal alignment.

For more information ask Dr. B at [email protected].

Why do you say “Power Is On!” after every adjustment?

August 15, 2018 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

Your power is on!

Saying that “your power is on” is regarding the body’s ability to process energy from the brain down the spinal cord. The energy that comes from the brain, down the spinal cord, to all parts of the body is what keeps you alive and healthy. If you have subluxations that can slow down the flow of energy.

Think of your spinal cord as a river. It brings energy from your brain, down your spinal cord to all parts of your body, every organ and tissue is totally dependent on that energy to keep you alive and healthy. If you have a subluxation or a misalignment as a result of a trauma or day-to-day life, it can compress your nervous system which will slow down the energy flow.

After adjustments saying that “your power is on” is indicating that you are at 100% nervous system function.

Get your power on!

Wonder if you’re operating at 100% nervous system function? The only way to do that is to make an appointment for a check-up with a CBP Chiropractor. They will be able to assess if you have any subluxations or misalignments which are impeding the flow of energy in your body, so call and set up an appointment today.

Can CBP Chiropractic adjustments help with indigestion?

August 8, 2018 by Desire Treski Leave a Comment

Can CBP Chiropractic adjustments help with indigestion?

It can if your indigestion is coming from a structural problem. There are nerves that control your digestive function and digestion, believe it or not, begins in the mouth with your saliva, which is why you should chew your food. Incorporating a lot of saliva into your chewing will begin to break down the food.

If you have a subluxation, which is a misalignment of the spine, anywhere from the very top of your neck all the way to the beginning of your low back, there is potential for you to have incomplete digestion. The nerves control your mouth, your esophagus, the stomach, the small intestine, the large intestine, and all other digestive organs. If you have a subluxation anywhere in those nerves, it can compress those nerves, therefore giving you incomplete digestion. This can lead to acid reflux or heartburn.

What are some indications of improper digestion?

Acid reflux and heartburn can also come from incomplete digestion because of a person’s inability to digest certain foods. People who are lactose intolerant or have celiac disease don’t have the proper enzymes in their body to digest those foods properly and can cause things like acid reflux and heartburn.

However, if you have a subluxation in your body it can cause indigestion and by getting the spine re-aligned you can reduce the likelihood of getting heartburn, incomplete food digestion or even allergies. Food allergies come from a food build up in the body and if your body is not digesting them correctly it can lead to food allergies.

Get a check-up from a CBP Chiropractor

You can prevent all these things by getting regular adjustments from a CBP Chiropractor. CBP or Chiropractic Biophysics is a branch of Chiropractic care that focuses on realigning your spine so that your nerve pathways are free of blocks. These blocks show up as pain, allergies, and indigestion. Getting a check-up by a CBP Chiropractor can put you on the right track to living a healthy life free of allergies and indigestion. So call for a check-up today and get your spine in optimum health.
